Not a lot of dough but I've never done this before. Everything was going fine until I told her it would be at least 4 weeks for the final turnaround which was very optomistic to begin with. She wanted the damn thing done in 5 days!
FOR GOD'S SAKE WOMAN! I AM NOT A PHOTOGRAPHER! I GOT A FREAKIN' DAY JOB!!! WHEN WILL I EAT, SLEEP AND CRAP?!?! I'LL BE LUCKY TO HAVE HAULED IN MY GEAR FROM THE CAR IN 5 DAYS!!!
She then said that she'd have her nephew do some filming so she could see some raw footage right away BUT he has no camera and... (get this), "would it be ok if he could borrow one of mine?"
SAY WHAT?!?! (double take). YOU'RE SHITTIN' ME RIGHT LADY!?!? I WOULD SOONER HAVE MY TESTICLES REMOVED THROUGH MY ARSEHOLE WITH A PAIR OF RUSTY ICE TONGS BEFORE I LOAN SOME INBRED RELATIVE WHO'S FAMILY TREE LOOKS LIKE A CIRCLE ONE OF MY CAMS!!!
Amazing. Needless to say... we concluded on a "sour" note. She was actually surprised by my "lack of cooperation". Is it illegal to murder stupid people? I think there's a "mercy-killing" law on the books somewhere that would apply here and I'm going to check it out. I "SWEAR" I'm going to start bringing one of my iRivers to these meetings.
And I'm raising my prices! (so clean off the sofa Rusty 'cause I'm movin' in!)

Criminy.
You're funny. That's good stuff.
(family tree looks like a circle... tee hee)
You should've told her that you can have it in 5 days unedited.. but it sounds like she even wanted it edited and everything. Sounds like she's a pain already and would probably end up being a bridezilla, so good thing you turned it down. It sucks that you guys did end up on a sour note.

Don't know if leaving in a huff was the right play. You should have charged what you thought was a fair expediting price and put it in her court. Who knows? She might have paid. Or not....

Yeah, I'd of told her that's the "Good and Fast" package, as opposed to the usual "Good and Cheap" package that everybody else opts for.

"Good, fast, cheap - pick two." One of my favorites.

you got to happy with 4 weeks.
Raise you prices and you wouldn't have had to meet with her in the first place.

Ohhhhh man that's pretty funny.
Gotta love it when people want to touch your gear (er, cameras that is).
I was at a wedding last year and this knob-end kept bugging me to try out my DVX 100ap (with lighting and mics attached) - um..... NO, go away! So I got treated like I was a jumbo ***** because I wouldn't let him touch my camera.
People are funny.

Well, asking for the video in 5 days wouldn't bother me, because the simple answer is no. Can't be done (for what she wants) and that's that.
However, the second part, about her nephew hanging around to shoot raw footage... (just that much info, you know she was going in the wrong direction)... and can he "borrow" your WHAT? Instead of getting angry, you should have just laughed hysterically.
People are just nuts.

I have walked out before too. I do understand the need to make money, but at the same time lines do have to be drawn.
I had a job a few years ago that another guy usually shot and it would have turned around $7000.00. The guy that hired me and the guy that used to shoot for them started acting like children and playing games.
I said no thanks and walked out.
Sometimes it is just not worth it!

Chris, I am not sure I would want anyone touching my cameras. I probably would not leave in a huff but that just would not happen... to much liability and I know that there would be no responsibilty. :)

Treated that way or not you made the right call.
The camera could have been easily dropped and then you would get a sorry and a busted camera. I would rather be looked at like a jerk then take the chance with the equipment I make money with :)

Well folks, I left out the part about her telling me I was, "CRAZY!" when I said I would only charge her $150 for a photo montage she wanted to add. Then she pissed and moaned when I said I'd need her precious photos for about a week as she didn't want them out of her posession for that long. By now I had already scooted to the edge of the sofa looking for the exit.
And yes, she expected an "edited" version of the final DVD in 5 days - couldn't understand why it would take so long. I did mention I could provide her with some raw footage to tide her over but that would cost extra. She balked at this and actually rolled her eyes at hubby-to-be who sat cowering and silent in the corner throughout all this. It's no wonder her sister-in-law is taking the formal photos as I'm guessing she pissed off every other pro within 7 counties.
So, as far as leaving "angry" goes... she unleashed her venom first and I figure she had it coming. My appointment was at 7pm at her home and she didn't show until 7:45 and I was about to write this one off and pull out of her drive. Doesn't even apologize. Admittedly *that* was a major thorn in my ass right off the bat. Being late is no problem - crap happens but by god you had better acknowledge it when it does. Nope... very glad I handled it as badly as I did. I'm the guy that gets along with every photographer, officiant, church lady, DJ, and banquet manager at every venue.
This gal just ordered a dose of reality and I delivered. I'm sending a sympathy card to the groom along with a plea he be castrated lest society be forced to contend with her offspring.

haha, on your way out you should have pointed out that 60% of all marriages end in divorce, and that the way she treated you was only a glimpse into
his future with her.

Is it illegal to murder stupid people?
In Colorado, yes....
I think there's a "mercy-killing" law on the books somewhere that would apply here and I'm going to check it out.
Please do. That would be saleable information to video professionals... I'll produce. :-D
I "SWEAR" I'm going to start bringing one of my iRivers to these meetings.
Another great idea! You could get a lot of leverage on Bozos like her if you mentioned uploading the audio to the 'web...
Where's the ROFLMAO emoticon when I need it?
