Built in mics work great. I also use Rode NT4, AT 822 & 825, Sony ECM44 Lav, Giant squid mono & Stereo Lavs

so if I read the specs on these mics your adapting from xlr to 1/8 to use direct mic in or are you using a sound board and going line in.

using the built ins for this job wont work real well i this case, as it will be used for someone to read a book so his hands will be full and a lav will be a better choice in this instance

that leaves the giant squids

thanks

yes xlr3 &5 dongles to 1/8 from soundprofessionals.com. You could also obviously use wireless Lav or wireless xlr but plug to reciever and 1/8 out to 1/8 into Edirol

You could also obviously use wireless Lav or wireless xlr but plug to reciever and 1/8 out to 1/8 into Edirol trying to find a way to make it as idiot proof as possible for this reading. as I would prefer to send it home with client and not have to sit through recording and editing. As he wants to hold down the cost, and my time is money. and the only way I can see to hold down his initial costs is on the front end or recording time. The editing time and production run costs are pretty much set in stone. But may have to if he can't get it down right.
