I saw a presentation on this product (as well as the RED camera) at the last LAFCPUG meeting. It has some definite value for those messing with HD.
As I recall, one of the most endearing features is that it will downconvert HD to SD and make the NTSC translation on-the-fly so you can preview your HD work as it will look after the downconvert/color space change.

It's not a "must-have", but will help a lot of guys as they get going in HD.

For a MBP user it could be a real winner. Then you could input HDV or MXF and edit in DVCProHD then output to whatever HD deck you like - all fro ma laptop.

Very cool in my book.
