I'm currently using several different ones at work: Avid Xpress Pro, Photoshop, Boris Red, our license for After Effects just arrived and is waiting to be installed when I return from vacation, and iMovie for little quick projects

but alas, at the house, I only have Xpress DV and Photoshop for now

Edius 3.62 and Premiere Pro 2 (Production Studio). I also have Vegas 4 but never really tried learning it.

My favorite is Edius but it doesn't have the bell and whistle of Premiere. But it's still my favorite.

Spank me, but I don't understand this poll. Are we comparing image-editing software against video-editing software? Sure I could use Photoshop to edit videos using the Filmstrip format.

For audio, video, graphics, stills and manipulation. And probably some I'm not thinking of right now as I just woke up.

For those, who understand the german language, a very interesting thread about using photoshop for videoediting  :Photoshop und Videoschnitt (http://hackermovies.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?sid=&f=10124&t=58195&hilit=videoschnitt+photoshop) It's one of the most famous threads on this board.
For those, who don't, I'll explain:
A guy was searching for videotimeline-plugin for PS. He never did videoediting before, and the only thing he has was a old PS-Version bought from ebay
His brother gave him 5000€ and an editing job . He took the money and went to amsterdam and spend all the money buying weed. The guy named Alex was the funniest troll I've ever seen on this board.
He was drinking all night, now only 4€ left, enough for the bus, he wants to leave germany......
There are a lot of funny replys, one of my favorites:
The architect: "hey Guys, need help. Told everyone I'm an architect, because I want some money for beer. Now heres my problem: had to build an house till tomorrow, only thing I've got is a borrowed hammer. Don't know where to start: the roof, the windows? I've got a better idea.....someone of you guys please do my work."
the other one:Alex: Nobody wants to help me? C'mon guys, there's some weed left. I've got a serious problem!!!
Reply: We believe you. You have a serious problem. However, in your case it has to do nothing with video cut.
Never heard how this story ends......

However, I'm using Vegas and for simple things MAGIX.

I have been a Final Cut editor since version 3, now waiting for my 5.1 disks. I have Avid express, but I don't use it. Studied advanced editing with Avid at OCC, hated the Avid. I have AE 6.5 (that might change tomorrow), photoshop cs, and Shake 4.1 which isn't loaded yet. Editing on the first gen G5 dualie.

Vegas 6.0 & DVDA 3.0 BTW has anyone seen the movie Orgazmo by Trey Parker from South Park? DVDA is the hardest position in porn to pull off and also the name of his band. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVDA_%28band%29

Just started using Vegas 7. It's been my favorite upgrade since getting Vegas. It's so intuitive and smartly put together. The new snapping tools are a blessing. I also like being able to edit with the preview window and tabs up top, like most other NLE's. At least for now, it's making editing a bit more fun.

We use FCP Studio (4.5 version) and Adobe Production Studio.

Truth be told, I prefer FCP by far. I've been using FCP for about 4 years, and Adobe studio about 4 months. I'm finding, on a daily basis what I like least about the latest Adobe Production studio is that Adobe isn't quite done with their bug fixes, and still needs to do some serious tweaking in spots.

I feel like there are a lot of nice features and functionality in the Adobe suite, but OS X/FCP allows us to get more work done. Even with the hoopla about the enchanced integration, it's running on Windoze XP.

My wife is editing exclusively on the MAC, and all but taken complete ownership of the box now. I've spent so much money configuring this new workstation for Adobe, that I wish I would have gotten a G5 box and another copy of FCP. I'm adapting my workflow, but I''m not a happy camper. When we clear our current editing backlog, I'll revisit the idea of getting a G5 or new Dual Xeon tower and going back to FCP. :icon_eek:

Billy I haven't noticed if you have tried SpeedEdit yet?Yeah, I got my downloaded advance copy when it was first announced. I actually posted a mini-review right here on WVP shortly after I got it.

I installed it on my laptop, but I don't do a lot of editing myself, so I haven't put it through all it's paces, nor do we shoot any HD so I haven't tried that aspect of it, either. But so far I like it and so does my producer. We're looking forward to getting our copy of VT5.

Funny how these old threads get resurrected... My last post on this thread was on 11/02/06, and the system marked this as an updated thread... I take it some folks have voted or voted again recently...

Since my last post, FCP I've retired my PC workstation with Adobe CS2 Video Editing Suite. I used it about 7 months or so. It's sat untouched on my dining room table since my Quad arrived. Maybe this is a good reminder for me that I have a very expensive paperweight sitting idle that I need to find a good home for?:laughing7:

Anyone here interested in a low-mileage AMD 64/XP windows machine with a full complement of Adobe software installed on it? I'll make someone a really good deal on it. Send me a PM if you're curious. Make me an offer I can't refuse.:devil-smiley-076:

It's not just you...
While Photoshop has utility, it's not an NLE. While After Effects can produce video it's really just an effects program. By those measures, maybe Aperture, iPhoto, Motion, and Boris RED belong in there too.

Just trying to get a mental image of what making a movie in AE would be like... "complex" is a word that keeps interjecting itself...

ppatton

photoshop edits images that can be used in a video production piece. Or maybe you use after effects to create some special effects you use in your video, or maybe to create titling, in the past after effects was used instead of premiere for slomo because premiere didn't do speed changes well. They all may be tools used in editing. I don't use the audio effects in premiere for fixing my audio I use sound forge. Maybe the question should have been what applications do you use to create your works of art? You use different apps to create your DVD's and your artwork for your disk labels and covers.
