OK, after some searching around and digging. I am trying this method with current DVDs. This may not be news to some of you, but thought it would be worth trying.
Requirements for viewing (customer)
HDTV
HD-DVD Player such as Toshiba's A1
Method I am trying....
Using Ulead Movie Factory 5 Plus, did a capture from some HD files I put together and printed back to tape for viewing from camera onto HDTV via 1080i Component connection...
Added chapters and made the stock menu in the program (pretty cool BTW and not really cheesy looking)
Creating the HD-DVD folders now, make image and burn that image using nero or the burn program it came with....
EDIT: Here is more detailed instructions on how to do this, though some of it seems not needed: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=705146&highlight=ulead
Known limitations at this point:
1- Can only fit about 20 minutes HD footage onto 1 DVD single layer, but estimating about 30 minutes on dual layer.
2- Will have to make a multi-disc set for whole wedding if done, but would be great for distro of HD ceremony (if short enough) and/or highlights.
3- I can't get it to import rendered M2T files yet as it says invalid format, not editable, etc. Will play around doing some MP4's and such.
I'm planning on burning one tonight (8 minutes worth) and taking to Circuit City or Best Buy tomorrow and test it out. From what I have found, it works, but I want to see for myself.
Has anyone played with this any?
UPDATE: I just made 2 DVDs. 1 with menus and one without menus. It creates a EVO files instead of VOB files. Still has IFO and BUP files though. IFOEdit will not open the files so can't take a peek inside at them like regular DVD IFO files. My 8 minute 10 seconds of footages took up 1.5 GB of size without a menu -- so looking at 20 minutes per DVD. Can't control bitrate with the Ulead software when it makes mpg from capture... but when I play the captured file in VLC, it shows 25 Mbps bitrate....... Tomorrow will be the test to see if this is 1- plays in the Toshiba HD-DVD player and 2-See if the quality is acceptable. If it works it will be great, but only 20 minutes per DVD sucks, but works until they get off their lazy butts and make burners for all at reasonable prices and.......................................
