Hi guys,
I've got a couple of months to sort this one out but I've got a wedding to be shot on a beach where the groom will be wearing white slacks and a white shirt - no jacket, no flower. So much for my basic black lapel mic...
Any advice for my mic options for the vows?

You could route it under his shirt and have the mic in his front or back pocket. Also, I believe the Squid mic comes in white.

Yeah, as much as I'd like to, I don't think I can avoid having the black mic show up. A white lapel might be handy but it's a last resort seeing as I've only had this pronblem once in six years of wedding video production.

How about picking up a white lav mic for those situations. I'm not sure what system or connection type you are using, but he most likely can supply you with the right connection and wireing.

Darren at Giant Squid makes some pretty darn good mics, and his service and prices are fantastic as well.

Your lav can mounted on the underside of the groom's shirt, or directly to his skin.
I've been using these to mount the mic under the jacket lapel with great success. The mic is hidden, sound quality is unaffected, and very little clothing noise (but there is some very occaisionally).

Hey Chuck,
Is this something you have tried on the bride before? I'm looking for a way to mic the bride as well. Have you tried it and how well does it work?
Let me know.
Thanks!
I've used a strip of white tape to cover the wire portion that shows, and painted my lav with Liquid Paper. Temporary fix easily returned to normal and it works fairly well.

Earl: I would have thought the liquid paper would clog up the mic, muffle the sound and be a pain to get out of the fiddly bits - you sure it comes off?
Chuck: Another good idea worth investigating - I've never seen those before...
Thanks for the replies...
Jeff, you do need to use a bit of caution regarding the mic head. What I wound up doing and failed to mention earlier, is picked up a spare tiny windscreen and went ahead and committed it to white. It isn't PERFECT white, but I applied a light coat of liquid paper to it and with the base of the mic also coated with liquid paper, the combination has worked perfectly well.
Of course if there's a situ where the mic is going to be handled, removed replaced a lot, the liquid paper coating WILL start rubbing off.
I usually handle it once only, and admonish all to keepayahandsoffa, and the coating has survived its one-time, at a time, application.
Really, I wouldn't lie to you unless it were true :-)

Andrew, I have not attempted to mic bride. One way I have heard about is to tape or strap the transmitter to a thigh under the skirt and run the mic wire up from there. This would require a full skirt and where the mic is actually placed would depend on the style of dress.

New dawn, a new day, and wedding video sounds interesting once again...
