Hello to all,

I just wanted to say hello to everyone. I also wanted to know if anybody here uses or had a chance to try those LED on camera lights. I currently use a NRG setup. After looking around for a while, I found the 12vt/50 watt bulbs for $15.00. I ordered one to give it a try. But realistically speaking, what am I in for? Thanks to all for taking time to read this post.

Sincerely,
Angelo Caruso

I've not yet, due to the expense of it, but I fully intend, after having personally seen and tested them on the showroom floor, the Lite Panels LED products. Is that bulb to which you refer, for your NRGs (what we currently use with diffusion material to smooth the spot), such a device? LED? Or you just simply referring to the usual 12v/50w bulb that burns brightly?
Also, welcome! WELCOME!

I tried to order one from a light manufacturer but the guy there talked me out of it, and made a convincing argument as to why the technology was not ready for prime time yet. There are several problems that make the varilux a better buy. For me, I hold on to my frezzi until the technology improves.

I own two LitePanels and they rule. I have never used my Frezzi since. No more huge battery weights to lug around, these LED lights are just as bright- sometimes too bright! But fortunately, you can lower the beam for the subjects.

They are expensive, but well worth it. I would suggest looking at the other manufacturers as well or making your own. The DVXUser.com DIY section has info on how to do this.

I am using a nrg "mite lite" with diffusion on it. I found a 2 prong bulb to put inot one of my old light setups. For $15.00, it can't be all bad.

Thanks for the info. I was looking at them in a trade show unable to compare them with other lights, found it difficult to judge to output and quality. I was told they will be at the Government Expo in Washington DC Dec 6 & 7 at a show discount and to buy them there. www.gvexpo.com (http://www.gvexpo.com)

Hey Ted,

What LED model are you using? I'd love to lose the heavy battery packs as well but I need at least 20-40 watts of output for those super-dark receptions.

I have one spot mini and one flood mini. They can be bought in a package with other stuff for about $2000 total.

here is another question.. for those who use LED light setups, can you integrate them in with your current lighting or do they cast a very different color temperature than say.. a frezzi minifill

LitePanels come with different color filters to integrate with your other light system. It's actually hard to integrate them into a 3 point system as they don't give nearly enough light as (for example) one of my 500w softboxes. The only time I really use them in this type of setup is as a backlight on someone's head to separate them from the background.
