Well, after defragging my system drive, this morning I woke up early and started to defrag one of my video capture drives... its a 200 GB drive and is 97% fragmented... Started at 5:00 AM and now is approaching 12 hours and is about 60% finished! Wowsers!

Just thought I'd share. BTW, I'm using O&O Defrag, seems to work much better than built in windows defrag... did it with the system drive and now XP Pro is running spot on compared to my last post about it running slower than home.

Download Perfect Disk 8 from Raxco.. I use that daily, plus it was a built in schedule for auto-defragging and a ton of other options..

i tried the demo version of Perfect disk does a real good joob and I liked the scheduling aspect SET IT AND FORGET IT. Seeing as my comp runs 24/7 3am is a good time its done by the time i get up , or at least by the time I get in from my day job, depending on how much stuff I have on my drives I let it run after my anti virus scannner gets done.

You also set the criteria of your defrag, example:

Aggressive Free Space consoldation
Age of files to defrag
Age of files to not defrag.

I use it on all my systems and purchased the full version.. The set it and forget is awesome..

O & O has a scheduler. I use it all the time and works great. I have all my computers do a defrag on Friday night.

One thing you should do before you defrag is delete all files you don't need then empty the trashcan. No point defragging files you don't need.
