I hate having just a static remote camera, so I devised a wireless method of controlling my camera and seeing what the camera sees.

The video signal is Tx from cam to a portable LCD monitor located at my audio setup. A remote control that controls both the camera AND pan/tilt head operates on IR and this is fed to an IR:RF converter. That signal is picked up on the RF:IR box powered with a 12v battery inside and has a 12v cig lighter socket that feeds power to the Tx. A switch was installed to cut off power to the RF:IR converter so I can recharge the battery through the cig lighter... Works for me.... for now. In the process of something else, but can't say right now.

I have since made it look nicer by running the cabling securely as one going to the camera. The cords running up to the camera is the IR emitter and fastens to the IR receiver in front of the camera. The other plugs into the pan/tilt head.

Just wait till the mack daddy controller comes out (if we can get it done.) Damn, I'm saying too much already. FCC is a b1tch to get around sometimes.

I use the same tilt/pan system but hate it because of the IR range...care to give out any details on how to convert away from that for the longer range that I assume you now have with this IR:RF system. Did you have to build a converter or do they sell one?

I actually HATE this pan/tilt head, but will suffice for now. The IR:RF conversion is done by 1 set of units from radioshack. You just need to work out the kinks to use in daylight as IR from the sun will not let it work, AND you must use the extension cable from the IR receiver into the pan/tilt jack. Here is the converters:

Better make sure its not going to interfere with anything else you have... I believe it works on 413 Mhz RF.

I was looking to build a system utilizing the controls that are used for remote control airplanes but have not had a chance to play with this concept yet. I'm sure it won't work or it would be used currently.

All you can do is try. I had about 3 versions of this before I got to here. The mack daddy is coming one day (hopefully) and will be very awesome.
