For those of you who missed it at the other board, here's a golden oldie.

This incident occurred during the cake cutting at a Costa Mesa hotel ballroom. My second shooter had left his cam rolling as this guy prepared to (allegedly) steal $4000 worth of the photographer's lenses left on a chair. Watch as he nervously paces and glances down at the bag. The camera was turned off just seconds before the theft.

He was also recorded by hotel security as he left the hotel with the lenses.

I remember this clip.
What a pansy. Just friggin take it and walk out, already. All the nervous energy is a dead giveaway to anybody who ever worked a 7-11 counter (or ever stole anything themselves :angel-smiley-008: )

So what happened? Did they end up catching the guy?

Nevermind the nervous energy. The wall length mirror behind him probably didn't help, either.

I hate theives!!! Did they catch him? If I would have caught him, I would have gave him the lenses though he would have to dig them out of his gut.

Not video related but we had one lovely chap in our township who wore a construction vest (with reflective strips, the works) and hardhat and he would go to each house knocking on doors. (he probably also tried turning door knobs to see if the house was unlocked).

I got out of my house on way to school and this bobby comes up to me and says, " did you see a guy walking around here?". I said, "no sir" and was on my way. Good thing we's got good eagle-eyed (eg, not Mike Duvall ) neighbors looking out for the riff-raff.

But that instance stuck with me, knowing the lengths some people go to to steal stuff.

I don't know if they ever caught him. Still frames and a link to this clip went to hotel security and Costa Mesa police. The hotels in that area are known for their camera thefts - especially the Waterfront Hilton in Huntington Beach.

This guy is probably a member of a ring that has victimized western Orange County. He was seen leaving with another man, and may have been on the phone with his getaway driver.
