There is no Version 4 trial yet.
But there is a version 3 full trial available.
Also, Canopus says that if you buy Pro 3 now, you will be entitled to a free upgrade to 4 when it is released.
Nothing to lose.
So check out trial of Pro 3 and then buy it if you like it and upgrade for free when it's time!
I also switched from Premiere Pro to Edius. It's a zillion times more stable and realtime effects is something I can't live without anymore.
but how is the slomo? Just as choppy as PPro or smooth like Vegas?

The slow mo is smooth as marble. I think you'll be very happy with it. Plus it handles HD (via the HQ codec) very well.

Chris, does it handle HD better than Vegas?

I never played with Vegas but editing HD in Edius felt like editing DV. Very pleased with it.

What's your computer specs?
Intel 2.8 dual core, 2 gigs of RAM, Firewire 800 Raid of 800 GB, Single SATA drive of 320 GB, Edius Pro 3.61 OHCI version, Nvidia 7300 with HD output to external monitor (should have sprung for the fX540 but works pretty well). The performance I get out of it would be equivilant to a Storm on a 1.5 ghz machine. I can do slow motion, dissolves, some filters all in real time but it get's bogged down beyond that and needs to render. Perfectly okay for day to day editing and was happy with the performance on it.

You got me beat brotha... Celeron D oc'd to 3.5ghz, 1 gig ram, 3 IDE HD (80g, 120g, and 200g) NVidia MX4000. Probably getting a dual core P4 soon. Undecided on which one though... AND transitioning to SATA soon for video drives.

I for one is waiting for my copy of Version 4. Been using Edius as my primary NLE since version 1. It doesn't have all the bell and whistle like Premiere which I also use. But to me it's very intuitive and easy to learn. Heck I didn't have to read the manual to start using it. Plus the Canopus forum is very informative with lots of knowledgeable users and it's free.
I played around with multicam at NAB 05 and was really impressed. It does 8 cameras. Too bad it doesn't do 9 cameras. I was dissappointed though when it didn't show up in version 3.5. So here I am waiting for Version 4. But as they say at the Canopus forum. It's coming SOON.
Now, if only speed ramps could be on the release version. That would be awesome.

oh yes! Speed ramps. I've never really thought of that as an NLE feature that I need, but that would definitely be cool.
What are some other wish list items? (I'm sure there is a comprehensive list over on the Canopus forums) Here are some of my wishlist items... just off the top of my head:
Better audio controls
WMV import
Flash output for ProCoder
Multiple mixers per clip (right now, once you put the 3D pip in, you can't put any of the blend filters there)
True keyframeable effects (as opposed to 'blend effects' filter)

Those are just the big changes. The new in and out point handling as well as the new way Undo functions is pretty cool.
There are extensive keyframers in all of the color correction tools now, as well as speed remapping.
Also has regular window type pull down menus.
Lots of new stuff :gossip:

Finally, Downey can shed some light! Welcome back.
So what's the story, Downey? Are you on version four right now? You should be re-learning it all so you can go out and make your moolah teaching it, right?
Give us a detailed scoop!
(Unless it's against your contract agreement with Canopus or something.)
Cheers!

The undo is killing me. I keep having to remember to reset things that on the avid would not be undone. I also can't wait for the in out handling that you are talking about.

How about mouse click in and out points over empty space OR over a file
Undo brings back the in and out points.
It is pretty slick! :)

I've been using Edius since version 1.0 so I guess I'll be in there with version 4 as well. The demo I saw of the multi-cam tool looked quite slick and the nested sequences will be a welcome addition.
Edius 4 looks like it will probably do 90% of the things I currently have to use Vegas for - only in real-time - so I'm looking forward to giving it a try.

what's a speed ramp? :snork_depr:
Maureen

That is a keyframed time movement like slow mo or fast that moves at a different rate of speed at different times in the clip usually by stretching the position of one of the keyframes. The computer calculates the difference that needs to be made up to get you to your end point and ramps the speed (either slower or faster). What do you edit on Jason?

Premiere since version 5.1
I have to cut clips and change speeds for each segment to get that effect.
Thanks Maureen.

Basically it's Edius under or overcranking the footage. Should look really cool and be a good fit for your style.
