Any suggestions? FCP or Motion?
Where could I get a space background?

I think you could build a space background in photoshop, then a standard title crawl, but skewed. If you can't get it right in FC, then try motion.

ArtBeats?

Don't pay money for artbeats, create a star in PS and save it as a cropped grayscale PNG, then use an emitter in Motion to build your own background.
Really to pull off the Star Wars illusion requires the use of at leasta faux Z-Space. Check out the BCC Z-Space plugin for motion that should get you in the ball park.

I believe there is a star background in LiveType. But I may be wrong. I've been wrong before. :innocent0007:

This should be a snap in Motion, but has been done in FCP many, many times...
Just get your scrolling text together, then put it on a Basic 3D DVE to get the "scrolling away" look.
There is a starfield called "Star Travel" in the Motion library for particle emitters. You'll need to slow it to a near stop.
PM me if you need detail.

No... you'll end up needing to keyframe it (yes, you can keyframe Motion) and you don't want to go there.
If you don't have the text scrolling, do that next. Give the text a Text Animation behavior of Scroll Up (Add Behavior button/Text Animation/Scroll Up) and adjust it to a speed you like.
Then, add a filter for the DVE (Add Filter button/Distortion/Basic 3D)
and adjust the tilt back to get the look you want. If you get the DVE all set up and the taper still isn't what you want, you can adjust the shape of the object using "Four Corner" in the properties tab.

If you have After Effects, check out creative cow.com. There is a tutorial on there that tells you how to make the star wars scroll

I think it's somewhere on this page:
Adobe After Effects Tutorials (http://www.creativecow.net/articles/aftereffects.html)
Very simple to do in AE but I think he was after a FCS solution.

Actually..I dont mind KFing in Motion and have done it quite a bit.
I didnt use scrolling text becasue the quality of the text suffered. Instead I just exported a transparent tiff with the text and treated liek a picture element and used 4 different instances of throw and grow and shrink and motion paths to get it to look right. It still needs some work and i could get it to skew at the end.

I've never checked, but there should have been a 1:2:1 deflicker option... that or just put a 1-point vertical blur on it.

Hmm..yeah..what I meant by skew is getting it to "pinch" at the ends :icon_redface:

This is what I suggested using "Four Corner" in the object's Properties tab to fix. It works pretty much like the "Distort" in the FCP Motion tab.
I made a rectangle plane in the Motion Canvas then "skewed" it using Four Corner after I had already laid it back into perspective with the Basic 3D filter. This allowed me to tweak the taper to exactly what I wanted.
Also, if you created the text in Pshop that may be why it "went bad" while scrolling. Pshop rasterizes everything; Motion maintains text as vector until you render it for output. The vector text handles the on-the-fly resizing better.
