I have a policy to avoid bookings on Sundays. Those are my family days and my time off.

What do you guys do for a 'weekend' since your Saturdays for this whole summer will probably be booked?

I wish I could afford to turn down Sunday weddings, but I can't. So I have a number of weekends where I have 2 weddings. It seems that Friday and Sunday weddings are almost as popular as Saturdays.

My "weekend" is any two consectutive days where I don't shoot or edit. Usually Sunday/Monday.

weekends for me are usually mon/tues or tues/weds....

just two weeks ago I was booked for two separate weddings one on friday and one on sunday and then less than a week before those shoots I had an east indian wedding book from that thursday to monday in Calgary, 3 hours away. It was insane and the price we quoted was higher than usual and they took it. So I shot thurs in Calgary, back to Edmonton for my friday wedding while I had my other shoot go to Calg. to shoot part 2 of the east indian wedding, Sat. I went back to Calgary to shoot part 3 of the east indian wedding, back to Edmonton for my sunday wedding which required a photomontage/set up while I had my other shooting go to Calgary for part 4 of the east indian wedding, and then on my I shot part 5 reception which luckily was in Edmonton.

That had to be one of my busiest weeks ever and I still couldnt take tues/weds off seeing as I had a commercial edit planned to be done. Gotta thank Red Bull for getting me thru those longs drives at midnight.

This has gone a little OT but I dont understand why some clients wait til the last second to book us...its crazy.

but for me....my weekends are kinda tues/weds and even then I dont really take them off 100%.....which is wrong but seeing as no one else in this world works thurs to monday its hard not to have clients bothering you on your weekends....

rob, damn dude, crazy. I have had back to back rehearsal dinners and 12 hour weddings these last two weekends, and I swear I have wanted to quit!

You have little kids, so I think it's great you reserve time for you family. Family is #1. My kids are a little older now, and rarely home on the weekends. I would say our "weekend" is Thursday/Friday. I work every weekend no matter what, wedding or not (I'm a nurse) so my husband books whatever comes along until he knows he has enough work to keep him busy. We actually have a Thursday wedding in August!

Yeah, I'm not legalistic about my sundays off, but I try to stick to it as best I can. I don't even edit on Sundays.

However, if Jennifer Aniston wants to marry Vince Vaughn on a Sunday and offered me a gig, I wouldn't turn it down.

we strictly don't book 2 weddings on a weekend, it just becomes to much. We don't take time off during the week at the moment so we try to at least get the Sunday or Saturday free.

Our wedding season is wrapping up at the moment. yeay weekends back.

I take off one weekend a month (unless I book a friday wedding only, then sat and sun counts as the weekend).

Otherwise I'll take Sunday weddings, but I make sure to have one day off at some point in the week. I don't have kids, so it hasn't been a problem!

R,

I'm very very happy you found us here. I meant to send you an email but I got mixed up as to who I sent emails to and who I didn't. Sorry you paid to get into VU only to find a bunch of the people you know GONE!

Anyway, being able to move your own weekend around is one of the perks of being your own boss, agreed?

I just don't want weddings to become my life - my family and my friends are my life - the wedding business is just a means to which I can enjoy my life. (And make new friends, of course!)

Usually Sunday is our family day, however I do take a few Sunday weddings throughout the year.

It's always so busy around here we just take time when we can and arrange in advance for certain times off during the year when we all do things together.

Recently I've broken my no-sunday gigs rule. I think, in order to compensate for those dates, I will not let myself work on adjacent Saturday.

Do you have a specific day that you do not book weddings on? or is it all just about the caishe!?

I wouldn't say we have a specific day we don't book a wedding. But it's not all about the $$, either. The cap is more a per year thing (no more than 25 weddings a year) and we just hope they end up a little spread out.

Then the corporate work comes along, and that's really unpredictable.

I'm sure everyone's "rules" will vary greatly, because some people are "part time" and have "day jobs".

PS what the heck is "other" in this poll??

We don't have a set day off, or really any set hours. We just kind of go with the flow of things. There are weeks that we never leave the studio, and there are weeks, when things are slow. Both Tony and I are workaholics, so it is rare that we are not working on one thing or another.

EVERY day's a work day!
Isn't it?
If it wasn't for other people recognizing days of the week, I wouldn't need a calendar to reference weekdays, weekends, months, years. I've even lost track of some holidays - good thing they're posted on most calendars, huh?

"other" is for the quirky things like, "Tuesdays and Thursdays I play softball with the pot-bellied ex-jocks I hang with" or "First and third Mondays and every Sunday the Jets are playing at home" or whatever.

You never know what you might get.

well, since I look after my son after a few days a week while my wife is at work, we like to think of every day as a vacation :icon_cool:

but I do get a few hours of work every day, unfortunately even Sunday although def. not as many hours on Sunday. Wife has every Monday off so we sometimes take Sunday-Monday 2 day trips when prices are cheaper. A few short trips to Great Wolf Lodge or Kalahari resort makes you forget about all the hours put in.

I will generally work any day - but my official policy is no appointments on Monday. This is a must since during the busy season I will work events fri - sunday. But I still find my self editing or doing SOMETHING on Monday regardless. I have no life.

I only work on days with an "r". Or eat oysters in months with an "r". One of those.

Back before things got too crazy I would always reserve Sundays as family day.

Since the baby came on board and husband works a lot, any time I can find to edit/work I take. Unfortunately that now means most Sundays are work days for me.
But that will only be for another year or so, then I'm back to having Sundays off and probably one evening as well.

I usually try to take the day after shooting a wedding as a rest day. I'm probably lucky in that my family consists of a wife and two cats and my wife does second camera when I'm working so it really doesn't matter when our day off is.

Sunday is our family day together also. It is a very special day for me so a sunday wedding shoot is very rare :)

Like many part timers I won't do weddings during the week. I have considered possibly doing Fridays if they are late enough, but for now it is Saturday and Sunday only.
