I finally had the nerve to change my contract to a more accurate delivery time. For the longest time, I had 10-12 weeks, which has usually been an easy goal to reach. But when booking numerous 2 wedding weekends, it screws up the backlog. Now my contract says:
"The typical completion time is 12-16 weeks. Depending on our workload, the actual time may be substantially shorter or longer". That pretty much covers me no matter how long it takes (within reason).

pretty much what I did on my contracts.
ditto.. I put in the 8-10 weeks, however going over that does not void the contract or something like that.. I dunno our Attorney did it..:)

We don't actually state it n our contract but in our info and website we have this "Usually, a video can take between 4 weeks to 6 months to complete depending on the season. It is not unusual for us to spend 2 weeks or more editing a video. Generally early season wedding dates (September/October) have a quicker turnaround time than late season wedding dates (March/April). We guarantee that it will be worth the wait."

My contract actually says that there is no guaranteed delivery time and that missing the suggested delivery time does not void the contract.
I.e., I will finish it when I finish it and there's nothing you can do about it.
I should add that I also let the client hold on to the final payment until completion of the product. That ways no one bears all the exposure.
Cheers!

I discovered that I could make enough money from the booking and shooting to not need to edit....I just let em keep the last payment and everything is cool!

My policy is "Final third of the balance due when the DVDs are ready, typically in 6 - 10 weeks"
