Sata iii
Need to buy a new HDD for my PC as I am quickly running out of storage space. Been looking at a 2TB WD HDD but notice that it is SATA III.
Now will I be able to use it in my PC as a plug and play, or does my MB need to be compatible? Are there any other things I should be aware of when using them? Cheers |

If your computer is not built for sata III, you can run it external through USB 2.0

Everything I've seen is that they're compatible, but of course the drive will transfer the speed of the interface you have. All this assumes that your mother board already supports SATA. If not, you'll need a SATA Host adapter... which opens a different can of worms.
Going to USB2.0 is always an option, if you can deal with transfer speed. Not a good solution if you are working with HD...

My MB is fine for SATA. Just really wondering if there was any difference between SATA II and SATA III.

Yes, there is... like twice the data rate. SATA II is rated at 3GB/sec, SATA III is 6GB/sec.
